Back on 11th February 2021, I set myself a target to see if I could be in a position to play professional golf by the time of my 40th birthday. That day is today, so where I am at?
How did it start?
Even before I set this target, my desire to see where I can go in golf was there. I started playing golf seriously in 2017 when a group of my friends started at a local club, it wasn’t long before I was hooked and found myself at the driving range more than I should. As my handicap fell, my expectations and desire to get lower green stronger and by the time we got to 2021 the seed of wanting to play at high level was planted.
What have I been doing?
In 2020 during Covid, I started working with a new coach that believed in my dream and therefore pushed me to get better. I sat down with Levi Smith, outlined what I wanted to achieve, and we developed a blueprint to get there.

The start of the blueprint was a major rebuild of my swing to create a more effective, repeatable movement and rid a multitude of bad habits that were killing my game. We’ve gone through a lot of hard times but after two years of work, adjustments and training, we’re 98% complete with my swing. Therefore a lot of the work we’ve been doing for the past 6 months has been related to on course performance.
Over that time, my handicap has reduced from 8.2 down to 6.3 meaning that I’m now in the bracket to become a PGA Teaching Professional if I wanted, but that’s not the plan.
This year as my confidence has grown, I’ve been playing on the Clutch Pro Tour as an Amateur to gain experience, see how I handle the pressures of tournament golf and how I hold my own against the field. What a ride that has been!

So far I have played three tournaments this year on the Clutch Pro Tour, my results have been:
2-3 May 2023 | Luton Hoo | R1 +16 – R2 +14 = +30 | 124th/124
11-12 May 2023 | Royal Ascot | R1 +10 – R2 +17 = +27 | 135th/145
7-8 June 2023 | Drayton Park | R1 +25 – R2 +16 = +41 | 112th/117
These results so far, haven’t been the best but within those rounds there has been some great golf and I have realised that I have the tools in the locker to start as a playing professional (bare a few technical shots that I need to learn), but I need to learn how to play as a professional. That’s what the next 4 tournaments this year are all about. I am learning in every round, from every pro I play with and every mistake I make.
Where am I going from here?
I feel that I have made some amazing progress in my pursuit to playing professional golf and I have given myself the best platform to make this a reality. Through all of the tournaments I have played this year and future ones, I will be entering and playing as a professional for the 2024 season.
So….”In 2024, I WILL be playing professional golf“.
